1 – Current models show it increasingly likely that snow, sleet or freezing rain will begin on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, in Virginia and spread north up the Interstate 95 corridor through Sunday morning.
2 – Heavy snow is expected Saturday in the Appalachians and parts of the Mid-Atlantic states, including Virginia, with some sleet/freezing rain mixed in, at times. Snow will spread into southern New England.
3 – While a high-impact snowstorm is likely, key uncertainties remain with the exact track of Winter Storm Jonas and how long it will last,” The Weather Channel reports. “All of those factors will dictate impacts at any particular location.”
4 – In addition to snow, ice and strong winds may lead to power outages and treacherous travel, while coastal flooding could impact some of the shoreline. “With a full moon this weekend tides will already be running high, which could worsen the impacts should any coastal flooding occur,” The Weather Channel reports.
5 – Snow accumulation predictions for the Fredericksburg region range from just a few inches to one foot or more. “[I]t’s far from certain what kind of impact this system will have,” The Weather Channel said.
