The name of the soon-to-be opened FredXchange (FredX) co-working space has been chosen.
The Foundry by FredXchange. “The Foundry is a factory where metal castings are forged, and we like the play on the words,” said FredX Executive Director Libby O’Malley. “We [entrepreneurs] consider ourselves founders of various companies and startups in the region. We [FredXchange] consider ourselves the place where founders are forged.”
The 2,300-square-foot space at 2324 Plank Rd. in the Gateway Village Shopping Center will provide flexible co-working space and initiate educational and mentoring opportunities for entrepreneurs and startups.
O’Malley and FredXchange Board Member Jeanne Wesley, vice president of Workforce Development and Community Relations for Germanna Community College, made the announcement on WFVA 1230 AM radio’s “Town Talk” this week. They were being interviewed about FredX and Startup Weekend by guest host and Fredericksburg Today Publisher Susan Larson.

FredX hopes The Foundry will be ready for opening in August 2015. A Target gift registry titled Fred Xchange has been established to help the nonprofit prepare the space.
Membership options and sponsorship options will soon be announced.
FredXchange received a $50,000 grant from Fredericksburg’s Economic Development Authority in April 2013 to assist with establishment and first year expenses of the co-working space. “The EDA has long expressed support for FredXchange’s plans for a co-working and business incubator space as a way to encourage local entrepreneurial activity,” said Bill Freehling, assistant director for economic development.
