The on-ramp to Interstate 95 northbound from Route 3 eastbound in Fredericksburg will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6 and Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is paving the on-ramp with a type of asphalt designed to increase vehicle traction, especially when pavement is slick. “High friction surface treatment is applied as a spot safety improvement to reduce vehicle skidding and crashes,” VDOT said.
Paving has been scheduled for daytime hours when temperatures are warmer. “The paving treatment to be applied is high friction surface treatment, which performs best when applied at ground temperatures of 55 degrees and rising,” VDOT said.
Message boards will be posted on Route 3 eastbound this week to inform travelers of the ramp closure on Dec. 6 and 7. All other I-95 ramps at the Route 3 interchange will remain open.
Signs will be posted to direct motorists along the detour route. Motorists will be directed to proceed past the ramp on Route 3 eastbound to northbound Route 1 to Route 17 Business, where travelers can access the northbound I-95 ramp at Exit 133/Falmouth in Stafford County.
Law enforcement officials will be present to help direct motorists to the detour route.
