What Are You Willing to Get Rid Of?

To get organized you have to be willing to ask yourself, ”What am I willing to get rid of?” If the answer is “nothing, I need to keep it all,” you won’t get very far.

As a professional organizer, I love working with people to help them realize what they should keep (and what they should not keep). Making the detachment from items that you either – think are valuable or are emotionally attached to – can be difficult.

I have permission to share a story of a couple that I am working with. Together, they are making weekly progress to de-clutter their entire home. It is hard! When you have been married for over 30 years, raised four children and had a crazy and busy life – well, it just happens that you may collect a little clutter.

What I love to see if the support that they give each other. We may be working on different levels of the home, but we celebrate with a high-five or by shouting “awesome” when they make decisions to release items that they never thought they would be able to eliminate. Their smiles and encouraging words to each other say it all. I also enjoy seeing the excitement on their faces when they share the list of items that they have eliminated between our visits.

Why do we hold on to things that we no longer need? Maybe it is the “just in case I need it” excuse. What brought this family to make the decision to organize their home? It was Christmas and the whole family was together. They pulled out the old VHS tapes to watch videos of Christmas past. And as they were reminiscing, they realized something very important. That their house was not the same house it had been 15 years ago – when the kids were all little. There was no clutter – everything was organized. How did this happen?

It is called life and this is when they made the phone call to Organization Direct.

Together, they are releasing the cause of the clutter and claiming back their home. They are making room for the items that they really do want to hold on to and are creating an environment that they enjoy.

No more excuses…because they know that in just three short days – “she’ll be back!”

I’m so honored to help this family (and many others) reclaim their home and their life. Being organized removes stress and the overwhelming feeling that you are behind – and will never catch up! With just a little help, we can make it happen for you, too!
