The George Washington Foundation invites the public to participate in A Wee Christmas at Kenmore, a dollhouses and miniatures show that will run December 6 – 30, 2015, during business hours and on January 8, 9 and 10, 2016, for “Twelfth Night” performances.
“I’m hoping to convey the fact that it’s not just about dollhouses or Christmas, but miniatures, room boxes, vignettes and displays in general,” said Susan Sherman, education assistant and volunteer coordinator. “Feedback from last year is that the visitors wanted “more,” so that’s what I’m trying to give them.”
The George Washington Foundation owns an exact miniature of Historic Kenmore, furnished down to the china on the table and paintings on the walls. It was the inspiration for the show. “We’re excited that our dollhouse will again have a neighborhood during the Christmas season,” Sherman said.
Each exhibitor will receive two free passes to the miniature exhibit at Historic Kenmore and the Gingerbread Contest and Exhibit at George Washington’s Ferry Farm.
To prevent or minimize possible damage, the exhibit will be monitored and stanchions will be in place.
To register your miniature for A Wee Christmas at Kenmore, call 540-370-0732 x22 or email [email protected] for information and an application. The deadline is Friday, Nov. 13, 2015. Exhibits must be no larger than three feet by six feet.
Set-up will take place November 30 through December 5, 2015, by appointment. Pick-up dates will be during the week of January 11, 2016, by appointment.
A Wee Christmas at Kenmore will be displayed in the Crowninshield Museum Building, just to the left of the front gate at Kenmore Plantation, 1201 Washington Ave., Fredericksburg. An opening reception is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015.
Fielding Lewis and Betty Washington Lewis, sister of George Washington, built Kenmore in the 1770’s. This house was originally part of a plantation of almost 1,300 acres.
