They were:
Dr. Gordon A. Hearne, a local dentist who died in 2008.
Rev. B. H. Hester of Shiloh Baptist Church who established a night school for adults to combat illiteracy, which enabled people to register to vote and have a voice in the community. He died in 1972.
Marie O. Kunlo who taught special education and introduced the Special Olympics to the area.
Stuart H. Payne, Sr., who was president of the National Bank of Fredericksburg, and served on the city planning commission and on the Fredericksburg School Board.
Arthur R. Smith, who served on City Council from 1938 – 1978. He was also president of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad, and president and treasurer of Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters. He died in 1982.
The Wall of Honor was established in 2000 to recognize people who have made significant contributions to the Fredericksburg community in their lifetime. Individuals cannot be considered for inclusion until at least one year after their death.
The Wall of Honor is located in City Council Chambers in City Hall, 715 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg.
Nominations
Anyone may nominate an individual for inclusion on the Wall of Honor by completing the application. Each year the Memorials Advisory Commission recommends the names of not more than five persons to City Council, which makes the final decision on all nominations.
