John Sechrest, founder of the Seattle Angel Conference, co-organizer of the Lean Startup Seattle, and a global facilitator for Startup Weekend, spoke at FredXchange Open Coffee on September 26, as a preview to Startup Weekend Fredericksburg.
“I’m a big fan of the “F” word, Focus,” Sechrest began as he collected yellow sticky notes with questions written by the entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs in the room. “The act of visualizing what you are doing creates focus.”
Questions posed by participants addressed aspects of Lean Startup methodology, including customer development, content strategy, monetization and scaling. “Lean does not mean cheap, it means no waste,” Sechrest said.
Startup Weekend Fredericksburg III begins 5 p.m. Friday and continues through Sunday night. The 54-hour events provides the opportunity for entrepreneurs to pitch an idea for a business, work with a team over the weekend to brainstorm, develop a business plan and create a basic prototype, and present to a panel of judges Sunday night. Sechrest is the event’s facilitator.
On Monday, Sept. 29, Sechrest will discuss community building and the startup process. The free event begins at 8 a.m. at Mimi’s Cafe, 10001 Jefferson Davis Hwy. in Fredericksburg.
