A 15-year-old Spotsylvania County resident was bitten twice by a shark August 20 at a beach in Garden City, S.C., near Myrtle Beach.
Dylan Peyton, a rising sophomore at Riverbend High School, was surfing during a family vacation when he was bitten, the Free Lance-Star reported.
Peyton was in about chest deep water, and was first bit in the leg, then the hand, Capt. Jerry Howerton, Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Department, told WPDE TV.
He was treated at and released from the emergency room the same day.
“At least 11 people have been reported attacked by sharks while swimming on the beaches of the Carolinas this summer,” the Associated Press reported.
