Fredericksburg’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) has pledged $26,817 toward 12 different businesses and organizations.
The grants will support a variety of businesses, building improvements, murals, events and initiatives.
• $4,340 to help the owner of 611 Caroline St. make numerous facade improvements to the building, where Lord & Lilly’s is now located.
• $3,000 to help Marantha Music Ministries put in a new roof and additional signage at 1915 Charles St.
• $3,000 to sponsor the Next Generation of Business Leaders’ Made in FredVA business-pitch event, which will be held October 29, 2015, at the Inn at the Old Silk Mill.
• $2,500 for a mural at 25 30 Espresso at 400 Princess Anne St. Kristen Easler is the artist. The mural is titled “Life in the ’Burg”. The mural is a tribute and inspirational piece for all that live and play in Fredericksburg, and will inspire people to be active and enjoy the community.
• $2,500 to sponsor the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Leadership Fredericksburg program.
• $2,500 to Fredericksburg-based DaySmarts LLC to help the company build an enhanced version of its online community calendar for the region.
• $2,000 to sponsor Fredericksburg VA Main Street Inc.’s Sandwich Invitational event, which will be held at Hurkamp Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 30 and will kick off the 2015 Summer Restaurant Week.
• $2,000 to sponsor the Art Attack after-party, which will be held September 19 at LibertyTown Arts Workshop at 916 Liberty St.
• $1,500 for an exterior awning at 2601 Princess Anne St. Building owner W/R Properties, LLC applied for the grant. There are a few service businesses located in the building.
• $1,300 for a mural at 2621 Princess Anne St., the first commercial building you see when turning onto Princess Anne Street from Route 1. It is located on the left across from Captain D’s. Property owner Matt Haney applied for the grant. The proposed mural would recreate a landscape of local artist Cliff Satterthwaite.
• $1,277 to help Tree Fredericksburg purchase and install 6-foot Emerald arborvitae trees in planters alongside the wall of 922 Caroline St. leading into Market Square.
• $900 to sponsor three performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” July 23 – 25 in Hurkamp Park. Stage Door Productions Inc. is putting on the performances in partnership with the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department.
EDA Grants
Applications are due September 1 for the Fredericksburg EDA’s next grant cycle. Applications are accepted annually on March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1. All applicants are required to meet with Fredericksburg Department of Economic Development and Tourism staff before applying.
The EDA does not receive taxpayer funds but rather receives fees from organizations that issue tax-exempt bonds through the authority.
