It’s Spring Clean-Up Week in the City of Fredericksburg. Large collection containers will be placed in centralized locations throughout the city for collection of furniture, appliances, brush and scrap material. Household trash, paint and hazardous materials are not permitted in these containers.

TUESDAY, April 8
City Council meets in work session from 5:30 – 7 p.m. and in regular session from 7:30 – 10 p.m. at City Hall, 715 Princess Anne St. The work session will focus on topics related to the City Manager’s recommended FY2015 budget. The regular session agenda is available for viewing online.
UMW’s Chappell Great Lives Lecture Series presents Shakespeare, by Lois Potter, author of “The Life of William Shakespeare: A Critical Biography”; George Washington Hall, Dodd Auditorium; 7:30 p.m.; free;
WEDNESDAY, April 9
The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce presents Workforce NOW Workshop: Leveraging Diversity in the Workplace from 8 to 10 a.m. at the John F. Fick Conference Center, 1301 Sam Perry Blvd.
UMW hosts the opening reception for the Annual Student Art Exhibition, 4 to 6 p.m. in the duPont Gallery, College Avenue and Thornton Street.
The Fredericksburg Democratic Committee is holding a City Council Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Free Lance-Star, 616 Amelia St. The event is free and open to the public.
The Planning Commission will meet from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. in City Hall. The agenda is available for viewing online.
THURSDAY, April 10
The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber hosts a noon Ribbon Cutting at Children’s Hospital of Richmond Stafford Therapy Center, 2781 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Suite 103, Stafford.
UMW’s Chappell Great Lives Lecture Series presents Spartacus, by Barry Strauss, author of “The Spartacus War” and professor at Cornell University; George Washington Hall, Dodd Auditorium; 7:30 p.m.; free;
FRIDAY, April 11
The Business 101 Seminar Series presents Personal Finance 101 from 8 to 10 a.m. in the conference room at the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, 2300 Fall Hill Ave., Suite 240.
