Voters in the region have the opportunity to head to the polls June 10 in Republican primaries for Virginia’s 1st and 7th Congressional districts.
Incumbent Congressman Rob Wittman, who has represented the 1st District since 2007, faces Anthony Riedel, who identifies himself as a “Christian, constitutionalist.” Virginia’s 1st District includes the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Prince William, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
Incumbent Eric Cantor and Tea Party favorite David Brat are facing off in the 7th District race. Cantor has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2001. Brat calls himself, “the only true conservative candidate in this election.”
Virginia’s 7th Congressional District includes the City of Richmond and the counties of Culpeper, Orange, Spotsylvania, Louisa, Hanover, New Kent, Chesterfield, Goochland, and Henrico.
The June 10 Republican primary is open, meaning all registered votes may participate but must sign an oath of loyalty to the party for the November general election. (See Code of Virginia § 24.2-530)
Polls will be open 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. To locate your polling location, input your address in the online Virginia Election and Registration Information System. You may also check your voter registration status.
The winners of Tuesday’s primary will represent the Republican Party in the November 2014 general election.
