Qualifying families in the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline and King George may obtain free car seats for their children. The program is part of the Safety First Regional Car Seat Campaign 2014.
Healthy Families Rappahannock Area will distribute the car seats to local Medicaid families from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 31.
Car seats will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Advance registration is required by calling Healthy Families Rappahannock Area at 540-374-3366. Training on how to properly install the car seat will be provided.
Auto accidents are the leading cause of death for children in America, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). “Approximately three out of four children are not as secure as they should be because car seats are improperly installed or children are improperly restrained,” Healthy Family Rappahannock Area said in a press release. “Child safety seats reduce fatal injuries by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.”
Car seat distribution and training will take place at Geico, 1 Geico Blvd., Fredericksburg.
Healthy Families Rappahannock Area provides intensive home-based services, designed to assist parents in providing a nurturing and supportive environment for their child.
